Anglo-Soviet Agreement on Joint Action
Britain and the Soviet Union agree to cooperate against Nazi Germany.
Germany's attack on the Soviet Union radically changed the diplomatic situation. States that had previously regarded one another with hostility now shared a common military enemy.
The agreement provided for mutual assistance and a pledge not to make a separate peace with Berlin. It was one of the first steps toward the broader anti-Hitler coalition.
Differences over the future political order of Europe did not disappear, but the need to coordinate the war effort took precedence until the fighting ended.
